A rarity: a music post!(and book stuff, too)

So...if you don't know—which you probably don't—, I am in LOVE with bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and blink-182.

Call me cliché, but I don't care.

It's not like I'm all-out goth or anything—I respect people like that, just saying—, but I do have a dark side of myself that no one knows about, constantly nagging me about regrets and things I did wrong, or stuff that I shouldn't have done. That's why I like alt music, since it is diverse. Don't get what I mean? Well, I've always been a die-heart Vampire Weekend fan (I'm listening to their most recent album 'Contra' right now), and they're considered as Alternative in iTunes.
Take Green Day, and look THEM up on iTunes. Click one of their albums, and under genre, the familiar term Alternative is written.

Two very different bands, joined by one word.

Music not only makes me feel like someone else gets me, but also let's me express my emotions. I enjoy writing, and I typically write in times of great stress, or when I'm excited. Just this past spring, I met author James Kennedy, and asked him for advice on writing. He said something along the lines of:
“No matter what, write EVERY DAY. Good or bad, just write.”.
Kennedy also showed us his first "book"—a small novel about monsters, guns, UFOs, and lots of fighting. It was hilarious watching him flip through the pages and be totally clueless on what he was thinking when he was six, writing and drawing the pages.

Well, anyway, Billie Joe Armstrong (lead vocals and guitarist for the band Green Day--mentioned above--) agreed to be a mentor for Christina Aguilera's team on The Voice!

Yay!

Poi Dog Pondering and Artemis Fowl

Last night, I was at the Naperville Tex Mex and Music Fest in a semi-undeveloped part of Naperville, IL, and had a blast! Country Sky Band, Asleep at the Wheel, and the full, 16-piece concert of Poi Dog Pondering. This is incredibly rare, and probably the first time in ten years that all of Poi Dog are playing together! On the super-long, two-and-a-half-hour, boring ride there, however, I made sure to bring a notebook, pen, and my hardcover copy of Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian, and I'm about halfway into it. I hope to finish the book by Friday, so I can ask Eoin Colfer tons of questions. If any of you have questions for Mr. Colfer, comment below—I'll try and get them all answered!

I have to post this before I forget...

Right now, I'm blogging and listening to Pandora, the Fun. radio. However, that isn't the band that I'm going to blog about. That mystery band is a group named MGMT. MGMT mainly focuses on alternative/electronic type sounds, and they're popular for songs like "Time to Pretend", "Electric Feel", and "Kids".

You may not recognize the name, but if you heard them, you'd know who I'm talking about. Their music has been featured in a few commercials, and popular on radio stations for their upbeat rythmns. If you don't normally like alt music, this is a band you'll love. The ensemble consists of two guys, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. The duo formed the band in 2002, with only the two college students, but after releasing Time to Pretend EP, they toured and opened for the indie band Of Montreal. For concerts and certain tracks, MGMT will add members, making their live band. Their live band are Ben Goldwasser, Andrew VanWyngarden, Will Berman, James Richardson, and Matt Asti. This band was formed in Connecticut, so they are States based.

The band's website is www.whoismgmt.com , and they love to accept fan art, no matter how strange.

Musically Yours!
